How to Perform a Linksys IP Setup

Performing a Linksys IP setup is easy when you are familiar with the internet protocol (a technical term for language) and you know the default address of your router. Normally, Linksys routers use a default address of 192.168.1.1 which you can use to configure your wireless router connection. In some instances, you can set up your IP address to 192.168.0.1.

192.168.0.1 IP is the default IP address of D-Link routers. When you key in this IP address onto the address bar of your browser, it will give you the web page of D-Link where you can change the default configuration to your preferences including changing the IP address. Your Linksys router can also be configured to use this IP address, although you have to make sure that no other device is set to use the same IP to avoid conflict resulting to inability to access the internet.

To perform a Linksys IP setup, here are the steps:

1.Connect your Linksys to your PC through the Ethernet cable. Turn on the power on both your Linksys router and PC.

2.Open your web browser. It can be internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or any browser that you usually use to browse the internet. On the address bar where you can see http://, enter the default IP of Linksys that is 192.168.1.1 which shall open the configuration web page of your router.

3.On the screen that appears where it asks for your username and password, use the default “admin” to enter the configuration menu page. On this page, you will see all the options to configure your router to the settings that you prefer including changing your password from “admin” to a strong one (a must!).

4.Go to the network setup tab and click on it. You will see the current set up including your IP information that you can modify to your preferred settings. Go to where you see IP router and type in your preferred IP. This is also where you choose to use 192.168.0.1 that will serve as the new setting for your IP address.

5.To save the new settings, click on the ‘save settings’ button. By clicking this button, your router IP address is now set to use 192.168.0.1.

After configuring your router to use your new IP, it is important that you change your router configuration setting password from its default of ‘admin’ to something that is easy for you to remember but extremely hard for anyone to guess.

In the event that you wish to change your settings and you have forgotten your password, all you need to do is a hard reset of your router (pressing the reset button by at least 30 seconds) and the router’s IP address will revert to 192.168.1.1-its default then perform the same Linksys IP setup.
